Herpes and lip tattoos – what you need to know before you get one

Many of my clients don’t know this, but after getting a lip tattoo, herpes can almost always flare up if you’ve ever had it before. This is completely natural, as tattooing is a minor procedure on the sensitive skin of the lips, which the body perceives as stress. Unfortunately, this is enough to reactivate the herpes virus.

Does it still come out even if you don't have herpes right now?

Yes, if you have ever had herpes, it is almost certain that it will reappear after lip tattooing – unless you take precautions beforehand.
However, if you have never had herpes, I have good news: it will not cause you any problems.

How can you prevent it?

I strongly recommend that all my clients who have ever had herpes ask their family doctor for Telviran or Herpesin tablets before getting a tattoo.
You should start taking these before the procedure and continue for a few days afterwards, as recommended by your doctor.

This is important because if the herpes breaks out, it will:

  • slow down healing,
  • ruin the final result (the color may be patchy and uneven),
  • and cause unpleasant symptoms – burning, tightness, blisters, etc.

From my own experience, I can say that those who did not take the medication always had an outbreak – and unfortunately, the healing process was not pretty.
However, those who took it preventively recovered beautifully and without any problems.

Don't take risks, prepare consciously!

Herpes is not only unpleasant, but it can also ruin the final result of a fresh tattoo, which may even require correction.
That’s why I always say: with a little care, a lot of discomfort can be prevented.
